The Gestapo occupied the school in April 1933, and it was closed down three months later#Apart from designing buildings, Gropius also worked on furniture, wall coverings, and a railway locomotive#Gropius offered this postscript to the Bauhaus: "The wholeness of its approach has helped to restore architecture and design as a social art"
